Getting started
What does CalScribe do?
You give it a schedule — typed text, a photo, a screenshot, or a PDF (or a mix) — and it turns it into calendar events. You check everything on a review screen first, and nothing is added to your calendar until you say so.
Which calendars does it work with?
Google Calendar. You sign in with your Google account and choose which of your calendars the events go into.
Does it cost anything?
CalScribe is free while we’re getting started. There’s a monthly limit on how many schedules each person can read; if you reach it, you’ll see a message, and it resets at the start of the next month.
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes. On a phone you can tap Take a photo to snap a paper schedule directly, or choose a photo or PDF you already have.
Signing in & connecting Google
Google says CalScribe wants access to my calendar. Is that safe?
CalScribe only asks for two permissions: to see the list of your calendars (so you can pick one) and to add new events. It cannot read, change, or delete the events already on your calendar. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Google sign-in didn’t finish, or I got sent back to the start.
Try again, and on Google’s screen make sure the box allowing CalScribe to manage calendar events is checked — without it, CalScribe can’t add anything. If it keeps failing, try a private or incognito window, or a different browser.
I don’t see the calendar I want in the list.
CalScribe shows calendars your Google account is allowed to add events to. A calendar someone shared with you as “view only” won’t appear — ask its owner to give you permission to make changes. Make sure you also signed in with the right Google account.
Reading your schedule
It’s taking a long time to read my schedule.
A short typed schedule usually takes under a minute. A busy photo or a long PDF can take several minutes. Please keep the page open while it works.
Some times or dates came out wrong.
Photos taken at an angle are the most common cause — a slanted table can make times shift onto the wrong row. For best results:
- Take the photo straight on, with the page flat and well lit.
- Or use a scanner app (on iPhone, the Notes app’s “Scan Documents”) to get a flat, straight image.
- A PDF or copied-and-pasted text is the most accurate of all.
Either way, you can fix any detail on the review screen before anything is added.
Why is CalScribe asking me questions?
When something in the schedule is unclear — a missing time, an ambiguous date, or an item that might not be an event — CalScribe asks rather than guessing. Answer the questions on the review screen and edit the event if needed.
Can I combine a typed schedule with a photo?
Yes — that works well. For example, type the usual weekly routine and attach a photo of the list of holidays or changes. CalScribe combines both, so a weekly class becomes one repeating event with the skipped dates left out.
The events are at the wrong time of day (off by a few hours).
That’s usually the time zone. On the main screen, check the Time zone setting before reading the schedule. CalScribe picks it up from your device, but you can change it, and it remembers your choice.
Adding events
I added events by mistake, or added them twice.
CalScribe can only add events, not remove them, so delete the extras in Google Calendar. For repeating events, delete one and choose “All events” to remove the whole series. A title prefix (like “Soccer:”) makes them easy to find.
I don’t see the new events in my calendar.
Check that you’re looking at the calendar you chose, and that it is switched on (ticked) in Google Calendar. On a phone, it can take a minute for new events to appear — pull down to refresh.
Your account & privacy
Do you keep my photos or schedules?
No. Uploaded photos, PDFs, and schedule text are deleted automatically right after they’re read. See the Privacy Policy for everything we store.
How do I disconnect CalScribe or delete my account?
To disconnect, remove CalScribe on your Google Account permissions page. To delete your account and data, email hello@calscribe.com from the email you sign in with. Events already added stay on your calendar.
Still need help?
Email hello@calscribe.com. It helps to say which step you were on, what you expected, and what happened instead. A screenshot is great too.
